Everyone.net Takes the Bite Out of Spam and Viruses for Dog.com's Email Users
Email Service Provider's Flexible Partnering Program Allows Dog.com to Continue Offering Email to Its Users
SAN JOSE, California, June 9, 2003 — Everyone.net, the leading provider of branded email for web site owners, and Dog.com, the prime destination for dog lovers, today announced the continuation of Dog.com email services. The services were originally scheduled to end on May 31, 2003. Now, visitors to Dog.com can continue to get a memorable email address at Dog.com (e.g. rex@dog.com) while receiving premium email service from Everyone.net.
Dog.com ran its email service, DogMail, using commercially available software in-house on their servers. Over time, DogMail grew until its size and the invasion of spam and viruses became more than Dog.com could handle for its loyal users.
"We started offering the free DogMail service in May of 1998. The challenges and costs associated with providing a free e-mail service have certainly changed since the early days," said Jim McNelis, president of Dog.com. "With the ever-increasing proliferation of spam and email viruses, the cost and increased demand on network resources resulted in costs too high to continue operating the service. Everyone.net offered us a partnership that enabled us to keep DogMail up and running, eliminating our cost of providing service while giving our customers more advanced features including SpamShield Pro, Sophos Anti-Virus, large email storage and the ability to use virtually any email client. Additionally, we have been able to free up human and network resources dedicated to email that can be deployed on other projects for Dog.com"
"Everyone.net is pleased that Dog.com has adopted us as their new home for DogMail," said Josh Mailman, VP of Marketing of Everyone.net. "Many site owners are finding it difficult to offer quality branded services on their site. At the same time, web users are searching for new ways to uniquely identify themselves with something other than a generic email address. Everyone.net allows virtually any domain owner to offer quality email services at a memorable domain for little to no investment on the domain owner's part. Our flexible set of email services can be customized to match the look and feel of the domain and can be branded to the domain name's URL, creating even greater stickiness to the owner's site."
Everyone.net offers a variety of packages for domain owners including:
